Album ini direncanakan untuk merayakan pameran seni SM Entertainment yang akan datang yang akan dibuka pada 10 Agustus di COEX World Trade Center di Seoul. Ini akan menjadi “best album” ketiga, dua belas tahun sejak yang terakhir. “SM BEST ALBUM 1″ pertama kali dirilis pada 1994, dan “SM BEST ALBUM 2″ dirilis pada 2001. SM Entertainment mengungkapkan, “Karena kalian dapat mendengar semua musik yang dicintai oleh fans musik global, kami mengharapkan tanggapan yang baik.”
“Best album” ini akan terdiri dari enam CD dan akan memuat 89 lagu yang dirilis melalui album SM Entertainment dari 2001 sampai 2012, dalam rangka bahwa mereka merilis. Dari Yoo Youngjin sampai EXO, sejarah SM Entertainment akan dapat dilihat menjadi satu.
Selain itu, lagu hit dan lagu hit OST milik artis SM Entertainment, seperti “Can You Hear Me” Taeyeon dan “By Myself” Tiffany, akan dimasukkan ke dalam album.
